What Blizzard Officially Says About the Diablo Series

The written announcement of the Diablo Netflix series is part of Blizzard's Opening Ceremony recap. The section is called "Diablo is Coming to Netflix" and is short.

Blizzard writes that Sanctuary's darkness is spreading. Blizzard and Netflix are developing a new animated series set in the world of Diablo, bringing the franchise to a new screen. Blizzard will have more to share as the series takes shape.

The section ends with a nod to Deckard Cain's famous line: "Stay awhile... and stay tuned."

What Johanna Faries Said on Stage

On stage, Johanna Faries went a little further than the blog. She introduced herself as a big Diablo fan:

"As a big Diablo player myself and as someone who loves the indulgent darkness of Sanctuary, I am very excited to see this project come to life."

Faries did not share any new facts about the Diablo Netflix series itself. She openly said she would have liked to reveal more:

"Trust me, while I begged and I pleaded to be able to share more today, I can't spill the beans just yet."

She promised that Blizzard will share more details as soon as it can.

Diablo Is Just the Beginning: Overwatch and Warcraft

The most exciting line goes beyond Diablo. Faries said: "Diablo, I promise, is just the beginning." She then turned directly to the Overwatch community and the Warcraft community. She did not rule out other Blizzard universes either: "And who knows, perhaps even some of our other universes."

She did not announce any concrete projects, though. She only said that "great discussions" are being had. Whether they lead to series, and with which partner, is open. So there is no confirmed series for Overwatch or Warcraft.

What Is Not Known Yet

There is no official statement on these points so far:

  • Release date: not named, not even a year
  • Story and time period: unclear whether the series is set before, during or after Diablo 4
  • Characters: none named, neither familiar ones like Deckard Cain or Lilith nor new ones
  • Animation studio and style: unknown
  • Voice cast: unknown
  • Episodes and seasons: unknown
  • Trailer or images: so far only the joint Netflix and Diablo logo on stage
As soon as Blizzard or Netflix answers any of these, we will update this article.

Why a Diablo Series Makes Sense

Diablo celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2026. According to Blizzard, more than 130 million players have entered Sanctuary across the series. The world offers plenty of material: the Prime Evils Diablo, Mephisto and Baal, the conflict between Heaven and Hell, and characters like Deckard Cain, Tyrael, Lilith or Inarius.

Then there are the game cinematics, which have long been among Blizzard's best-known videos. How much of that ends up in the series, Blizzard has not said. This section is our interpretation, not a statement from Blizzard or Netflix.
