Minionmancer Necromancer – Leveling Build

The Minionmancer Necromancer is a comfortable and powerful leveling build for Diablo 4 Season 15. Your Skeleton Warriors, Skeleton Mages, and Golems handle a large portion of the fighting while you support your army and safely move through enemy packs.

Decrepify supports your Minions and weakens enemies, while Army of the Dead provides a powerful damage window against tougher targets. Sever is primarily used for additional mobility in this build.

Playstyle

  1. Keep your Skeleton Warriors and Skeleton Mages fully summoned whenever possible.
  2. Use Decrepify to weaken enemies and support your Minions through Unholy Frenzy.
  3. Command your Skeleton Warriors onto important targets to activate their additional damage.
  4. Use your Golem's active command to send it directly into enemy packs and draw enemy attention.
  5. Activate Army of the Dead against large packs, elites, and bosses.
  6. Use Sever mainly for additional mobility rather than as your primary source of damage.
Your Minions are the main source of damage for this build. Focus on keeping your full army active and regularly using their active commands.

Essence

Essence is less important for this build than it is for many other Necromancer builds.

You mainly need it for Decrepify, replacing missing Skeleton Mages, and occasional uses of Sever.

Because Sever is primarily used for mobility, avoid repeatedly using it for damage and unnecessarily spending Essence.

A simple gameplay flow is:

Keep all Minions summoned → use Decrepify → command your Minions → use Sever for mobility

If any Minions are missing, prioritize rebuilding your army first.

Using Your Minions

The core of the build is the interaction between your different Minions.

Skeleton Warriors form an important part of your frontline. Regularly command them onto priority targets so they can benefit from their additional damage.

Skeleton Mages support your army from range. Try to keep your full number of Mages active whenever possible.

Your Golems can be sent directly into enemy packs, helping to keep enemies occupied and reducing the pressure on your character.

The upgrades selected in the build further increase and strengthen your Minion army.

Thorns

Thorns provide an additional source of damage for this build.

You can find Thorns as a regular gear affix or add them through appropriate Tempers, which is why they are placed relatively high in the Affix Priority.

Thorns do not replace the normal damage dealt by your Minions. Instead, they provide additional damage when enemies attack you or your army.

Thorns are a useful addition to the build, but your Minions remain the primary source of damage.

Army of the Dead

Army of the Dead is your most important skill against tougher enemies and large packs.

With Unyielding Commander, your Minions become significantly more durable while also gaining additional offensive power during the skill.

Use Army of the Dead primarily:

  • against elite enemies
  • against bosses
  • against especially large enemy packs
  • when your Minions are under heavy pressure
Cooldown Reduction allows you to use the skill more frequently.

Defense

One of the biggest advantages of the Minionmancer is that your army keeps many enemies occupied for you.

Your Golem is particularly useful because you can send it directly into dangerous enemy packs. The selected upgrade also makes you briefly Unstoppable when commanding your Golem.

While leveling, prioritize:

  • Maximum Life
  • Armor
  • Resistances
  • defensive Aspects
Try to stay behind your Minions and allow your army to engage enemy packs first.

Leveling Gear

You do not need perfect items while leveling. Replace your equipment regularly and use the Affix Priority listed above as a guideline when choosing upgrades.

Alongside Intelligence and Maximum Life, Thorns provide a useful additional source of damage. They can appear directly on your gear or be added through appropriate Tempers.

Movement Speed is also valuable because your Minions can continue fighting while you are already moving toward the next enemy pack.

Do not focus only on perfect individual stats. A good combination of Minion strength, defense, and Thorns makes the leveling experience much smoother.

Aspects

You can find the most important Aspects and their recommended item slots directly in the Gear section of the build planner.

Several Aspects directly improve your Minions or increase their survivability. You do not need every Aspect immediately while leveling.

Add them gradually and replace weaker equipment whenever you find better upgrades.

Tip: Prioritize Aspects that noticeably improve your Minions or survivability first. Perfect rolls are not necessary during the leveling phase.

Leveling Tip

The Minionmancer Necromancer is an excellent choice for a safe and relaxed leveling experience.

Do not try to fight every enemy yourself with Sever. Allow your Minions to engage packs first, use Decrepify, and regularly command your Skeletons and Golems.

Keep all Minions summoned → use Decrepify → command Skeleton Warriors → send your Golem into the pack → Army of the Dead against tougher enemies → Sever for mobility.

This combines a large Minion army with strong survivability and additional damage from Thorns for a safe and straightforward leveling experience.

How to read and rebuild this Necromancer build

This page holds a complete Necromancer build for Diablo 4: skill tree, gear with aspects, paragon boards and the class mechanic. Here is how to read each tab and in what order to rebuild it.

The class mechanic: Book of the Dead

Skeletal Warriors, Skeletal Mages and the Golem each come in three variants with two upgrades — or can be sacrificed when the build wants the personal bonus instead of the minion. That choice shapes the build more than any single skill point.

Gear, aspects and affixes

The Gear tab lists every slot with its item, aspect and all affixes. Colour marks show what is special about a given line: a Greater Affix (GA) is the fifty-percent stronger roll of an affix, a tempering affix is added at the blacksmith from a manual, and an affix marked for masterworking only takes effect at Masterwork Quality 25 — which is why the planner always shows it at maximum.

Rebuild the gear in this order: uniques and mythics first, since they are fixed, then aspects on the remaining slots, then tempering and masterworking. Aspects can be imprinted from the Codex of Power or extracted from legendaries you find.

Paragon and glyphs

Paragon boards unlock at level 60. How many points this build spends is shown in the header band at the top. What matters is not the individual nodes but the glyphs: their radius grows with glyph level, and their additional bonus only applies once enough attribute points sit inside that radius. A board with the right rotation is therefore worth more than a board with more nodes filled in.

Variants and season

Many builds carry several variants — for example a version without mythics to start out. The bar under the build name switches between them, and skills, gear and paragon all change with it. The version picker in the header shows the build against the data of a given season.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Which main skill does the Minionmancer build use?
Minionmancer is built around Skeleton Warrior. The skill bar runs Sever, Decrepify, Army of the Dead, Skeleton Warrior, Skeleton Mage and Golem.
Which gear does the Minionmancer build need?
Key aspects are Aspect of Frenzied Onslaught, Aspect of Hardened Bones, Aspect of Reanimation, Aspect of Amplified Damage and Vehement Brawler's Aspect (+4 more).
Which season and purpose is the Minionmancer build made for?
The build is set up for Season 15 as a Leveling build. It is rated S-Tier.
How many skill and paragon points does this build need?
The counters in the header band above the tabs show both: points spent against the maximum for that version. If the number is below the maximum, the build is not fully built out and you can place the remaining points to taste.
Why is masterworking always shown at the highest rank?
An affix marked for masterworking only takes effect at Masterwork Quality 25. A lower rank would say nothing useful for planning, so the planner always shows that state as reached.
Can I play this Necromancer build in another season?
The underlying game data changes every season. The version picker shows the build against the data of a given season; values a later season changed will differ.
