Dance of Knives Rogue – Leveling Build
The Dance of Knives Rogue is a fast and highly mobile leveling build for Diablo 4 Season 15. The build revolves around Dance of Knives, which you channel while moving through enemy packs and continuously throwing knives at surrounding enemies.
Shadow Imbuement provides additional area damage, while Dark Shroud, Concealment, and Dash support your resources, mobility, and survivability.
Playstyle
- Keep Dark Shroud active whenever possible to benefit from its defensive effects and the additional Energy Regeneration provided by Overflow.
- Activate Shadow Imbuement before attacking larger enemy packs with Dance of Knives.
- Use Concealment to restore Energy, reposition yourself, and prepare your next damage window.
- Channel Dance of Knives and move through the enemy pack.
- Use Dash to quickly reach the next group, avoid dangerous areas, or build additional offensive effects.
- Use Puncture whenever you need additional Energy or need to bridge the gap before using Dance of Knives again.
Rotation
For normal enemy packs, use this rotation as a general guideline:
Keep Dark Shroud active → Shadow Imbuement → Dance of Knives → Dash to the next pack
When your Energy starts running low:
Concealment → restore Energy → Puncture if needed → Shadow Imbuement → Dance of Knives
Against elites and larger packs, you can combine your skills more deliberately:
Dark Shroud → Concealment → Shadow Imbuement → Dance of Knives → Dash to reposition or chase
You do not need to use every cooldown against every small pack. The main goal is to enter important Dance of Knives channels with enough Energy and Shadow Imbuement available.
Energy
Energy is especially important for this build because Dance of Knives continuously consumes Energy while being channeled.
The build has several ways to improve its resource management.
Dark Shroud is used with Overflow, allowing your active Shadows to increase your Energy Regeneration.
Puncture can also help generate Energy, while Concealment can restore a larger amount of Energy at once.
A simple resource cycle is:
Dance of Knives → Energy runs low → Concealment / Puncture → restore Energy → Dance of Knives again
As your gear improves and you gain more Energy Regeneration and Resource Cost Reduction, you will be able to maintain Dance of Knives for increasingly longer periods.
Using Dance of Knives
Dance of Knives is your primary damage skill.
While channeling, you continuously throw knives at nearby enemies. The selected Energy Cost Reduction upgrade lowers its resource consumption and allows you to maintain the skill for longer.
Attack Speed is especially valuable because Dance of Knives converts Attack Speed into additional damage rather than simply throwing more knives.
With Star Shards, your knives can also shatter into additional metal fragments and deal further damage.
Attack Speed is particularly valuable for Dance of Knives because it directly increases the damage of the skill.
Shadow Imbuement
Shadow Imbuement significantly improves your damage against larger enemy packs.
Infected enemies explode when they die and deal additional damage to surrounding enemies. This creates powerful chain reactions while leveling when several weaker enemies are grouped together.
The selected upgrade also reduces the cooldown of Shadow Imbuement as enemies are killed.
Use Shadow Imbuement primarily:
- against larger enemy packs
- before longer Dance of Knives channels
- against elite packs with several additional enemies
- whenever you can quickly kill multiple enemies close together
Dark Shroud and Concealment
Dark Shroud is both an important defensive and resource-management tool for this build.
With Overflow, your active Shadows increase your Energy Regeneration. Try to maintain as many Shadows as possible.
Concealment provides additional safety and mobility. While active, you become Unstoppable, gain Movement Speed, and can move freely through enemies.
It also helps restore your Energy and prepare your next Dance of Knives damage window.
Defense
The Dance of Knives Rogue relies heavily on mobility.
Dark Shroud reduces incoming pressure, while Concealment and Dash allow you to quickly escape dangerous situations.
While leveling, prioritize:
- Maximum Life
- Armor
- Resistances
- defensive Aspects
Leveling Gear
You do not need perfect items while leveling. Replace your equipment regularly and use the Affix Priority listed above as a guideline.
Attack Speed, Energy Regeneration, and Resource Cost Reduction are especially valuable.
Attack Speed directly improves Dance of Knives damage, while the two resource stats allow you to maintain the skill for longer.
Movement Speed is also very useful because the build is designed around constantly moving from one enemy pack to the next.
A stable Energy flow is especially important while leveling. More damage does not help much if you constantly have to stop Dance of Knives because you have no Energy left.
Aspects
You can find the most important Aspects and their recommended item slots directly in the Gear section.
The build uses several Aspects that support Dance of Knives, your Imbuement, resource management, and defenses.
Effects that strengthen you while channeling or improve Shadow Imbuement are particularly useful for this playstyle.
Tip: Prioritize Aspects that noticeably improve your Dance of Knives damage or Energy management first. Perfect rolls are not necessary during the leveling phase.
Leveling Tip
The Dance of Knives Rogue is excellent for fast leveling once your Energy management becomes stable.
Try to gather larger enemy packs and activate Shadow Imbuement before moving through them with Dance of Knives. Shadow Imbuement explosions help clear entire groups quickly.
Against small packs, save your cooldowns and continue moving.
Keep Dark Shroud active → Shadow Imbuement → Dance of Knives → Dash to the next pack → Concealment or Puncture when Energy is low.
This gives the Dance of Knives Rogue excellent mobility, strong area damage, and a fast-paced playstyle throughout the leveling process.

How to read and rebuild this Rogue build
This page holds a complete Rogue build for Diablo 4: skill tree, gear with aspects, paragon boards and the class mechanic. Here is how to read each tab and in what order to rebuild it.
The class mechanic: Specialization
One of three specializations is active and defines how the build handles its resource. Together with the imbuements it decides whether the build leans on sustained damage or single heavy hits.
Gear, aspects and affixes
The Gear tab lists every slot with its item, aspect and all affixes. Colour marks show what is special about a given line: a Greater Affix (GA) is the fifty-percent stronger roll of an affix, a tempering affix is added at the blacksmith from a manual, and an affix marked for masterworking only takes effect at Masterwork Quality 25 — which is why the planner always shows it at maximum.
Rebuild the gear in this order: uniques and mythics first, since they are fixed, then aspects on the remaining slots, then tempering and masterworking. Aspects can be imprinted from the Codex of Power or extracted from legendaries you find.
Paragon and glyphs
Paragon boards unlock at level 60. How many points this build spends is shown in the header band at the top. What matters is not the individual nodes but the glyphs: their radius grows with glyph level, and their additional bonus only applies once enough attribute points sit inside that radius. A board with the right rotation is therefore worth more than a board with more nodes filled in.
Variants and season
Many builds carry several variants — for example a version without mythics to start out. The bar under the build name switches between them, and skills, gear and paragon all change with it. The version picker in the header shows the build against the data of a given season.
