Season of Hell's Legacy
Thirty years of Diablo. Three Prime Evils. One season of nightmares.
September 15, 2026 at 9:30 AM PDT / 18:30 CEST
Season of Hell's Legacy is the centrepiece of Diablo's 30th anniversary and launches on 15 September 2026 with patch 3.2.1. The seasonal questline leads through the history of the earlier games: you defeat the echoes of Diablo, Baal and Mephisto, carry one of their Splinters of Evil, and relive key scenes from Diablo I, II and III in the Waking Nightmares. Alongside it come eight Soul Splinters, nine Legacy Uniques, shared War Plans, deterministic Mythic crafting, two new Horadric Cube recipes, Rebirth, the Horadric Post and a Season Rank with more than 125 objectives.
Start date and time
Season of Hell's Legacy starts on Tuesday, 15 September 2026. Blizzard confirmed the date in the official announcement on 12 September, and the official season page names the time: 9:30 a.m. PT — half an hour earlier than previous seasons. The Twitch Drops begin at 11:00 a.m. PT, ninety minutes after launch.
- 9:30 a.m. PDT — Los Angeles
- 12:30 p.m. EDT — New York
- 4:30 p.m. UTC
- 5:30 p.m. BST — London
- 6:30 p.m. CEST — Berlin, Paris, Vienna
The season ships with patch 3.2.1. Blizzard will publish the full patch notes separately; until then the balance section below reflects the 3.2.0 test realm. Seasons usually open in a staggered rollout over roughly half an hour — if the Season Journey is missing right after the reset, log out and back in a little later.
Seasonal mechanic: the Splinters of Evil
The dead rise from Pandemonium, and the lost soul of Deckard Cain returns with dire news: three dark wanderers are back, each leaving a trail of death. The seasonal questline takes you into their nightmares, where you defeat the echoes of the three Prime Evils — Diablo beneath Tristram Cathedral, Baal at Arreat Summit and Mephisto within the Durance of Hate.
Each victory grants a Splinter of Evil. You carry one at a time and become a dark wanderer yourself: in combat, an Iconic Power of that Prime Evil periodically erupts from you — Fire damage for Diablo, Cold damage for Baal, Physical damage for Mephisto. The Splinter also makes you more vulnerable to its Prime Evil. What you hunt, hunts you back.
Every Splinter has its own reputation track with eight modifiers and six upgrades for the Iconic Power, unlocked through War Plans. Each one changes different activities:
- Diablo's Splinter of Terror — Helltide and Infernal Hordes
- Baal's Splinter of Destruction — The Undercity and Lair Bosses
- Mephisto's Splinter of Hatred — The Pit and Nightmare Dungeons
- All three modify the Tree of Whispers
To switch, return to the largest Waking Nightmares and claim a different Splinter.
Waking Nightmares: Diablo history in three sizes
Waking Nightmares are memories of key events from earlier Diablo games, rebuilt with Diablo IV visuals and combat. They come in three sizes.
The largest are multi-level dungeons modelled on Capstone dungeons and recreate the historic showdowns with the Prime Evils. You meet them first in the questline and can replay them on Torment tiers for rewards; from Torment 10 they appear as the highest Capstone dungeons with more risk and more loot.
The middle type are standard-length dungeons at fixed locations in the world — the Den of Evil from Diablo II, for example.
The smallest appear suddenly in the open world: a one-room encounter with a past boss such as Spider Queen Araneae, or waves of memorable monsters like dagger-wielding Fallen.
Soul Splinters
Soul Splinters are the season's special gems, each tied to a demon or artefact: Anguish (Andariel), Sin (Azmodan), Lies (Belial), the Black Soulstone, Pain (Duriel), the Mother (Lilith), Hellfire (Na-Krul) and Damnation (Skarn). Every Splinter offers a powerful blessing and carries a burden — they are build decisions, not gems with a downside bolted on.
You can socket up to three Soul Splinters in your jewellery. They drop as Magic, Rare, Legendary or Unique items, and the Horadric Cube fuses Splinters of the same type and rarity into the next rarity — which is where the four tiers per Splinter below come from.

Nine Legacy Uniques from 30 years of Diablo
Nine Uniques based on relics of the series arrive with Season 15 and stay in the game permanently, on Seasonal and Eternal Realms alike. For every class: Leoric's Crown, Nemesis Bracers, Stone of Jordan and Squirt's Blouse. For several classes: Arioc's Needle, Henri's Perquisition, In-Geom, The Furnace and Messerschmidt's Reaver — the axe Prince Aidan is said to have wielded when he first drove Diablo back.
Seven of the nine also exist as Unique Charms for the Talisman: Nemesis Bracers, Stone of Jordan, Squirt's Blouse, Arioc's Needle, Henri's Perquisition, In-Geom and The Furnace. Leoric's Crown and Messerschmidt's Reaver are items only.
Below are the entries already in our database, split into items every class can wear and items limited to a few. Hover a card for the in-game tooltip, click it for the full entry.
Items — all classes 4
Leoric's Crown
Unique- This item counts as Jewelry and increases the effect of any gem socketed into the helm by [75 - 100]%[x].
"Heavy, isn't it?" Leoric said, fussing with his new crown, "The weight alone might topple me from the throne." Archbishop Lazarus only smiled, calm and cold. "It catches the Light well, your grace."
Nemesis Bracers
Unique- Shrines will spawn an Elite Pack.
Though tarnished by centuries, the bright steel is unmarked by battle. It inspires courage until one sees the padding, stained black with old blood. The names of bygone owners fade in the leather.
Squirt's Blouse
Unique- While not taking Damage, you take up to 50% and deal up to [30 - 50]%[x] more damage. This bonus is reset upon losing Life.
It looks like the blouse of a street urchin with a crude stone pendant. But the inside is lined with hidden pockets and sinister sheathes. And on the back of the pendant? A old runic word: "Kantwirt."
Stone of Jordan
Unique- Your Resistances are each equal to your highest, and you deal [15 - 25]%[x] more damage of that Element.
Nine out of ten appraisers would see a dull stone. Crudely cut. Simply set. But a trained eye might see past the illusion placed by its Ammuit craftsman…and marvel at the wellspring of magic within.
Items — multiple classes 4
Arioc's Needle
Unique- Gain [35 - 50]%[x] Deadly Strike Chance. Your Deadly Strikes deal [70 - 100]%[x] increased damage.
- Classes: Barbarian, Druid, Spiritborn
For decades, the spearhead lay encased in resin, warded with runes, and sealed in a block of granite. So feared was the venom infused in its tip, taken from the fang of a great spider, long extinct.
Henri's Perquisition
Unique- You gain Primary Stat equal to [85 - 115]%[x] of your Dexterity.
- Classes: Necromancer, Sorcerer, Warlock
"It's just a cat," said Ankaj. Her uncle leaned in, "You are spiritborn. Look deeper." In its amber eyes, Ankaj saw the passing of ages, fixed on a single thought: "Mouse." The cat smacked its lips.
In-Geom
Unique- Defeating an Elite pack reduces your Skill Cooldowns by [8 - 10] seconds for 15 seconds.
- Classes: Barbarian, Druid, Necromancer, Rogue, Paladin, Warlock
"Ahh, the In-Geom! The royal smiths of Xiansai folded the spirits of not one—but four tigers into the steel! Come! Put your ear to its edge. You can almost hear them… Meow!"
-Covetous Shen
The Furnace
Unique- You deal [150 - 200]%[x] more damage to Elites.
- Classes: Barbarian, Druid, Necromancer, Paladin, Warlock
"What plague has befouled, let fire make clean. What agony these good people have suffered, let it settle quietly in the dust."
-General Arenton
Shared War Plans
Since War Plans arrived with Lord of Hatred, players have asked for reputation to carry across characters. From Season 15, War Plan points are shared between all characters on your account that match in three properties: Eternal or Seasonal, Hardcore or Non-Hardcore, Standard or Solo Self-Found. Every character still keeps its own plans and can distribute the shared points differently.
Your Season 14 War Plan progress moves to the Eternal Realm on 15 September and is added to the progress of matching Eternal characters. For Hardcore, only living characters transfer: a Season 14 Hardcore character that dies before the switch takes its points with it. From Season 15 onwards, one living Hardcore character with the same properties — even a level-1 "storage" character — is enough to carry the shared progress across.
Mythic crafting without randomness
Mythic Uniques are still crafted in three places, but the results are far less random. Horadric Cube — Upgrade Direct Item to Mythic guarantees a one-to-one transfer: a Tibault's Will with ideal affixes, Tempering and Masterworking becomes the Mythic version with every value unchanged. It costs more than the other routes, cannot be used on non-modifiable items (so do not Transfigure your Mythic candidates), and the result carries a Crafted tag — you may equip only one Crafted item at a time.
Jeweler — Rune Crafting and Blacksmith — Mythic Cache produce Mythics without the Crafted tag, so several crafted and dropped Mythics can still be worn together.
Two PTR changes were reverted after feedback: the Unique versions of Iconic Mythics are gone — Iconic Mythics stay Mythic-quality only — and the Blacksmith gets a second cache option that rolls only Iconic Mythics at the same price as the Mythic Unique Cache.
Two new Horadric Cube recipes
Affix Value Reroll rerolls the base affixes on gear, Charms and Seals while protecting what you want to keep: Greater Affixes, Enchanted affixes, Tempers and Transfigurations, as long as the item is modifiable.
Horadric Reroll is a second option for Legendary and better Charms and Seals. It grants completely random base affixes without touching Set Bonuses or Unique and Mythic Charm powers — and unlike Affix Value Reroll it leaves the Talisman Set Bonus affixes on Seals alone.
Since the PTR, Unique Charms can also drop at Mythic quality — rare, with every property at its maximum and a substantially stronger unique effect. There is no crafting route for them.
Rebirth and the Horadric Post
Rebirth moves an Eternal Realm character into the Seasonal Realm at level 1 instead of forcing a new character. Class, name, appearance and mode (Normal or Hardcore) carry over, and cosmetic preferences saved as part of an ensemble — transmogs, pigments, mounts, pets, portals, headstones — transfer as well. Hours played add up across every Rebirth.
One caveat costs items if you miss it: Rebirth is only available once the character has nothing equipped and nothing in the personal inventory. Move everything to the Eternal stash first; the game warns you and offers to strip or destroy remaining items.
The Horadric Post is a new one-way mailbox through which Blizzard delivers rewards, supplies and commemorative items straight to your account — a delivery channel, not a mail system.
Season Rank: nine ranks, more than 125 objectives
The Season Rank grows to nine ranks with over 125 account-wide objectives. Roughly 15 percent of them require Lord of Hatred, including objectives needed to finish Rank VIII and collect every Season Rank reward. The headline rewards:
- Up to 14 Skill Points and up to 42 Paragon points
- Up to 10 Resplendent Sparks (plus more inside Mythic caches) and 5 Mythic Unique Caches
- Pet: Dark Wanderbear · Mount trophy: Banner of the Three
- 2 Emblems, 2 Titles (Deckard's Confidant), 4 Title Laurels
- Crafting and Masterworking materials, currency, Lair Boss Keys, Runes, Seals and Talisman Charms
Smoldering Ashes from objectives and chapter rewards unlock the five Season Blessings listed further down.
Battle Pass Reliquary
The free Battle Pass Reliquary celebrates 30 years of Diablo with cosmetics inspired by famous heroes, infamous villains and legendary classes. It contains the Eidolon mount, the Eidolon's Barding mount armour and the Ancient Town Portal — and for the first time the armour reliquary holds a dedicated set for every class.
The Deluxe Battle Pass (2,800 Platinum, or individual Reliquaries) adds instant access to the Archangel of Justice armour set, the Lordling of Terror pet and the Wings of Justice.
Twitch Drop, Game Pass and The Witcher
Twitch: from 15 September, 11:00 a.m. PT, until 29 September, 10:59 a.m. PT, watching any Diablo IV stream for two hours earns the Deforestation two-handed axe cosmetic. Link Battle.net and Twitch beforehand, otherwise the hours do not count.
Xbox Game Pass: subscribers who link an active Game Pass to Battle.net receive more than 50 cosmetics across all classes — armour sets, mount trophies, a town portal, an emblem and a headstone. Items you already own are simply skipped.
The Witcher 3: anyone who pre-purchases or buys the Songs of the Past expansion on Battle.net unlocks a Geralt skin in Diablo IV.
Seen on the PTR, not in the announcement
Two 3.2.0 test-realm features do not appear in the official article: Challenge Dungeons (portal encounters scaling up to three Torment tiers above your setting) and Overland Ambushes (demon packs with a 30-second warning in the open world). The smallest Waking Nightmares — sudden one-room encounters in the open world — look like the evolution of the ambush idea, but Blizzard has not said so. We will update this section with the 3.2.1 patch notes.
Balance highlights from the PTR
Patch 3.2.0 touched every class on the test realm. Blizzard has announced that 3.2.1 will ship with its own patch notes; until they are out, these are the PTR changes that shift builds the most — all of them still subject to change.
Barbarian, hit hardest. Strength scaling drops from 1.1% to 0.8% damage per 10 points. The Madawc variants of Rallying Cry and Call of the Ancients are halved, and the two-handed sword bleed bonus falls from 30%[x] to 15%[x].
Warlock, the biggest winner. Dread Claws' Ravenous Jaws variant goes from 125% to 500%, Infernal Breath from 20% to 30% base, the Explosive Death variant doubles to 200%, and Dark Prison's Calamity variant jumps from 30% to 200%.
Defensive Aspects get real work. Eluding Aspect no longer requires you to be Injured and adds 10–15% damage reduction. Aspect of Audacity adds 15–20% reduction against Close enemies, Aspect of Rallying Reversal grants 10–15% reduction on top of its resource, and Wyward's Aspect adds 50%[+] Lightning Resistance.
Offensively: Aspect of the Expectant rises from 4–6% to 6–8% per basic attack (still ten stacks). Aspect of Heavenly Strength loses its 10% reduction but becomes available to the Spiritborn. Azurewrath no longer explodes enemies, and gains damage in exchange: 100–120% becomes 120–150%.
Druid, Necromancer, Paladin, Rogue, Sorcerer and Spiritborn all received further adjustments.
What is worth doing before the start
The season resets everything seasonal, so preparation is about knowledge and about your Eternal characters — not about stockpiling.
- Finish Season 14. Season Rank rewards and the battle pass have to be claimed before the reset; afterwards the characters move to the Eternal Realm with their gear. Details in our Season 14 ending article.
- Hardcore War Plans: keep at least one living Hardcore character with matching properties alive through the switch, or its shared progress is lost.
- Planning a Rebirth? Empty the character's equipment and inventory into the Eternal stash. Our Rebirth guide walks through it.
- Plan a build. The build planner carries the Season 15 data, and the leveling builds for all classes and the 1–70 leveling guide cover launch day.
- Read the announcement summary. Every confirmed feature in one place: Diablo 4 Season 15: Season of Hell's Legacy.
