Diablo 4 Season 15: Start Date, PTR & All New Features
Soul Splinters, returning Uniques, Mythic crafting, Rebirth, and every class change from the 3.2.0 PTR.
Diablo 4 Season 15 is expected to start on September 15, 2026. Blizzard has not officially confirmed that date yet, but the 3.2.0 PTR already revealed Soul Splinters, returning Uniques, more deterministic Mythic crafting, Rebirth, and major balance changes for all eight classes. The official name, the full seasonal theme, and part of the actual Season 15 content are being held back for BlizzCon.
Diablo 4 Season 15: The Key Details
- Start date: September 15, 2026 is the expected date, but Blizzard has not confirmed it. There is no official launch time either.
- Full reveal: Blizzard deliberately held content back and plans to share more at BlizzCon on September 12 and 13, 2026.
- Seasonal mechanic: Eight Soul Splinters were tested on the PTR. They socket into jewelry and pair powerful bonuses with significant drawbacks.
- New activities: Challenge Dungeons and rare Overland Ambushes were part of the test. The final Challenge Dungeon encounters in Season 15 will contain different content.
- Items: Ten familiar Uniques from earlier Diablo games are returning as permanent additions. Nine were testable on the PTR; Messerschmidt's Reaver is scheduled to arrive with Season 15.
- Mythics: An expensive Horadric Cube recipe can upgrade an existing item directly into its Mythic version while retaining its affixes, Tempering, and Masterworking.
- Quality of life: Rebirth lets an Eternal character restart at level 1 in the new season. The Horadric Post delivers messages and rewards directly to your account.
- Classes: All eight classes received adjustments. The broadest PTR changes affect Barbarian, Druid, Necromancer, Paladin, Sorcerer, and Warlock.
- Still unknown: Final patch notes, the Season Journey, rewards, Reliquaries, Season Rank, duration, and any post-PTR balance adjustments have not been revealed.
When Does Diablo 4 Season 15 Start?
The most likely date is Tuesday, September 15, 2026. It is derived from the current in-game season timer and is also used by several community trackers. Blizzard has not officially announced a date or launch time at the time of writing.
- Expected start date: September 15, 2026, but not officially confirmed.
- Launch time: Still unknown. If Blizzard keeps its usual 10 a.m. Pacific reset, 7 p.m. CEST would be plausible.
- Season end: Not announced.
- Full reveal: More information is scheduled for BlizzCon on September 12 and 13.
The timing would be unusually tight: BlizzCon ends only two days before the expected season launch. Our Diablo 4 BlizzCon 2026 schedule lists the announced panels and stream times. Blizzard has not revealed their exact contents in advance.
What's New in Season 15?
Blizzard explicitly described the 3.2.0 PTR as a preview of the next season. At the same time, the team warned players not to treat the test as the complete Season 15 concept: some content was intentionally reserved for BlizzCon.
The features shown so far include:
- eight seasonal Soul Splinters,
- Challenge Dungeons,
- rare Overland Ambushes,
- ten Legacy Uniques,
- changes to Mythic crafting,
- Mythic and new Unique Charms for the Talisman,
- character Rebirth,
- the Horadric Post,
- extensive class, Paragon, and balance changes.
How the Season 15 Mechanic Works
Soul Splinters Go Into Your Jewelry

Soul Splinters are currently the only item type that Blizzard has explicitly described as seasonal. They socket into jewelry, grant elemental or Physical Resistance, and come in five rarities: Common, Magic, Rare, Legendary, and Unique. Lower-quality Splinters can be upgraded in the Horadric Cube.
Every Splinter offers a powerful advantage at a price, making it more build-defining than an ordinary gem:
- Splinter of Anguish: More Critical Strike Chance and Attack Speed, but higher Primary Resource costs.
- Splinter of Sin: More Maximum Health, but less Maximum Primary Resource.
- Splinter of Lies: More Gold, Crafting Materials, and Bonus Experience, but you are permanently Weakened and Vulnerable.
- Splinter of the Black Soulstone: Killed enemies provide stacking damage, but each soul also increases your damage taken.
- Splinter of Pain: More Damage Reduction, but less Movement Speed.
- Splinter of the Mother: You are Unhindered and make enemies Vulnerable by touching them, but become Stunned after a set number of contacts.
- Splinter of Hellfire: A large multiplicative damage bonus, but you lose all Critical Strike Chance.
- Splinter of Damnation: Killing an Elite pack temporarily increases Monster Power.
Challenge Dungeons Were Testing the Framework
Portals to Challenge Dungeons can appear in the Overland and lead to a boss encounter. On Torment difficulties, you can raise the encounter by up to three Torment tiers above your current world difficulty for better rewards.
Blizzard added an important restriction to that description: the PTR fights were created to test the underlying system. The final Season 15 version will feature different content. Names, enemies, bosses, and exact rewards are therefore still unknown.
Overland Ambushes Make the Open World More Dangerous
During a rare Overland Ambush, a powerful demon begins hunting your character. After the warning appears, you have 30 seconds to flee or fight. Blizzard describes these encounters as difficult challenges intended to test Sanctuary's strongest warriors.
It is not yet clear whether Ambushes belong to a larger seasonal mechanic or will become a permanent open-world feature.
New Content, Items, and Rewards
Ten Legacy Uniques Are Returning

The returning items originate from Diablo, Diablo II, and Diablo III. Blizzard has adapted their powers to the current item system. They are permanent additions and will be available in all versions of Diablo 4.
Available to all classes:
- Leoric's Crown
- Nemesis Bracers
- Ring of Royal Grandeur
- Stone of Jordan
- Squirt's Blouse, a Chest Armor version of Squirt's Necklace
- Arioc's Needle
- Henri's Perquisition
- In-Geom
- The Furnace
- Messerschmidt's Reaver
Mythic Crafting Becomes More Deterministic
The most important new Horadric Cube recipe upgrades an existing item directly into its Mythic version. Its affixes, Tempering, and Masterworking are retained in a total one-to-one transfer. If you already own a nearly perfect Unique base, the upgrade no longer forces you to roll those values again.
Two restrictions applied on the PTR:
- Unmodifiable or Transfigured items could not be upgraded.
- The Cube recipe added the Crafted tag to the result, and only one Crafted item could be equipped at a time.
The one-Crafted-Mythic limit was a PTR rule. Blizzard has not confirmed whether its costs, restrictions, and recipe details will remain unchanged for the live patch.
Regular Unique Versions of Iconic Mythics
Every Iconic Mythic will also become available as a regular Unique. This makes its build-defining effect accessible earlier, while the Mythic version remains the stronger endgame form. The change should reduce the time spent using a temporary build while waiting for one extremely rare drop.
New Unique and Mythic Charms
The Talisman system from Lord of Hatred is expanding with Mythic Unique Charms. Every Unique Charm has a small chance to drop as a Mythic. That version rolls maximum property values and a stronger Unique effect, but it cannot be crafted or target-farmed.
Blizzard also announced 16 new Unique Charms based on existing Uniques. Eight of the ten returning Legacy Uniques will receive matching Charms.
Rebirth Replaces Another Character Slot

Rebirth converts an Eternal Realm character into a Seasonal character. The character restarts at level 1 but retains its class, name, appearance, Normal or Hardcore state, and cosmetic preferences. Total playtime is tracked across all of that character's Rebirths.
Rebirth does not skip leveling or seasonal progression. Its main benefit is saving a character slot and allowing the same character to continue building a history across seasons.
The Horadric Post Delivers Account Rewards
The Horadric Post lets Blizzard send messages, supplies, rewards, and commemorative items directly to your account. It is a one-way delivery system; players cannot use it to send anything. Blizzard has not revealed which Season 15 rewards, if any, will be distributed through it.
Season Journey, Reliquaries, and Rewards Remain Unknown
Blizzard has not published details about Season Rank, the Season Journey, Season Blessings, Reliquaries, or cosmetic rewards. No seasonal questline, vendor, or boss has been officially confirmed either.
Class Changes in Season 15
The following assessments are based on PTR build 3.2.0. They show Blizzard's current direction, not a final tier list. Individual values can still change in the live patch notes or through a last-minute balance update.
Barbarian
Barbarian received the clearest broad reduction. Its core stat scaling dropped from 1.1% to 0.8% damage per ten points of Strength on the PTR. Several multiplicative Paragon bonuses, Glyphs, the Bleeding bonus from Two-Handed Sword Expertise, and parts of Call of the Ancients were also reduced.
Some items were improved at the same time. Ring of Red Furor now triggers its guaranteed Critical Strike after spending 30 Fury instead of 100 and gains additional Critical Strike Damage. The overall foundation still looks weaker, and only the final values will show which builds can compensate for that loss.
Druid
Druid's core stat scalar increased from 1.25% to 1.625% per ten Willpower. Greatstaff of the Crone and Fleshrender received large multiplier buffs, while Nafain's Bestiary added a new Talisman set for Companion builds.
Not every change was positive. Might of the Bear lost a large part of its multiplier and now only applies while in Werebear form. The broader direction is still favorable for Storm, Companion, and hybrid archetypes without leaving the strongest Werebear scaling unchecked.
Rogue
Rogue received improvements to Smoke Grenade, Combo Points, and several Grenade effects. The Hunter's Craft Legendary Paragon Node now rewards Marksman, Cutthroat, Mobility, and Trap skills separately, opening more room for builds that combine several categories.
Condemnation supports additional Combo Points, while Artful Initiative and several defensive effects become more reliable. The PTR points toward new hybrid setups rather than one obvious winner.
Necromancer
Necromancer also received the higher 1.625% core stat scalar. Desecrated Ground from Bone Prison and Blood Wave deals more damage, Blight gains a variant with additional boss damage, and Soulrift was retuned.
Shadow, ground-effect, and boss-focused builds stand to benefit. Combined with the general Intelligence scaling increase, the direction looks positive, but a final ranking would be premature before the live patch notes.
Sorcerer
Sorcerer benefits from the higher core stat scalar as well. Orbital Ball Lightning can be repositioned while moving, several Cold effects and Blue Rose were improved, while powerful Paragon sources such as Enchantment Master and Pyromaniac were reduced.
This is not a simple buff or nerf. Baseline scaling improves while some of the most efficient multipliers become weaker. The final numbers will decide which Fire, Cold, or Lightning builds come out ahead.
Spiritborn
Several Basic Skills deal more damage on their third hit, and Spirit Storm received a large increase. The new Swarm of Storms Paragon Board connects pestilent swarms with Spirit Storms and establishes a clear foundation for new hybrid builds.
Other swarm-related scaling was reduced in return. Spiritborn is gaining new synergies rather than receiving a universal damage increase.
Paladin
Paladin received the higher Strength scalar and major improvements to Judgment, Blessed Shield, and Spear of the Heavens. Judgment's single-target damage was increased on the PTR, and several Aspects now support these archetypes.
Damage-over-Time affixes will no longer be available to Paladin, and the class can no longer equip X'Fal's Corroded Signet. Blizzard is moving Paladin away from unintended DoT combinations and toward its own Holy, Shield, and Judgment synergies.
Warlock
Warlock received one of the largest packages of targeted improvements. Demons respond more reliably, Command Skills were revised, and several core attacks received substantial buffs. Hellfire Aura, Chain Aura, and Endless Barrage can also be cast while moving on the PTR.
The new Superiority Glyph adds another scaling option. The changes target smoother gameplay and more competitive Demon and Aura builds. Whether that is enough to reach the top of the meta remains uncertain until the live version arrives.
Major System and Balance Changes
Several defensive Aspects are becoming more broadly useful. Eluding Aspect now reacts to any Crowd Control effect and provides Damage Reduction, while Aspect of Audacity combines its Stun with protection against Close enemies. Offensive effects such as Aspect of the Expectant were adjusted as well.
Three points matter most when planning gear:
- Soul Splinters change Resistances and defensive trade-offs. A build may need different affix priorities than it used in Season 14.
- Direct Mythic upgrades reward strong base items. Perfect Tempering and Masterworking results will not be lost if the recipe goes live unchanged.
- Regular Unique versions of Mythics smooth out build progression. The defining power becomes available before the final Mythic version drops.
Season 15 PTR: What Was Tested
The PC PTR ran from August 4 at 10 a.m. PDT until August 11 at 10 a.m. PDT. It used build 73123 and included seasonal content alongside changes for the base game and Lord of Hatred systems.
- Soul Splinters: Eight Splinters were tested with provisional values. The seasonal system is confirmed, while final values and acquisition routes remain unknown.
- Challenge Dungeons: The PTR used encounters built specifically for the framework test. Blizzard has confirmed that Season 15 will contain different content.
- Legacy Uniques: Nine items were testable. Ten were announced in total, with Messerschmidt's Reaver scheduled for Season 15.
- Direct Mythic upgrade: The test retained all affixes, Tempering, and Masterworking. Final costs and restrictions have not been published.
- Crafted tag: Only one Mythic carrying this tag could be equipped on the PTR. Blizzard has not announced a post-PTR change to that rule.
- Rebirth: An Eternal character could restart at level 1 in the new season after removing all equipment and inventory.
- Class balance: All eight classes received extensive changes. These remain provisional until the final patch notes arrive.
What Has Blizzard Changed Since the PTR?
Blizzard has not published a complete post-PTR change list at the time of writing. There is no reliable basis yet for claims that a specific nerf has been reversed or that any build is guaranteed to remain meta.
The only difference that was already announced before testing concerns the Challenge Dungeon content. The PTR used encounters created for system testing, while the live season will use different encounters. Messerschmidt's Reaver was also announced but intentionally excluded from the PTR.
Community feedback after the test has focused on the severe advantages and drawbacks of Soul Splinters, the broad Barbarian reductions, and the one-item limit on directly crafted Mythics. Those are player concerns, not confirmation that Blizzard will change any of these systems.
What Is Still Unknown?
The current gaps are larger than they are during a typical season preview:
- the official name and complete theme of Season 15,
- an officially confirmed start date and launch time,
- the planned end date and season duration,
- Soul Splinter unlocks, progression, and farming sources,
- the final Challenge Dungeon encounters and rewards,
- a potential seasonal questline, enemies, or boss,
- Season Rank, Season Journey, Blessings, Reliquaries, and cosmetic rewards,
- final values for items, Aspects, Skills, Paragon Nodes, and Glyphs,
- changes made in response to PTR feedback,
- the complete live patch notes for 3.2.0.
What Does Season 15 Mean for Players?
For Beginners and Returning Players
You will not necessarily need another character slot. If Rebirth reaches the live servers unchanged, you can empty an Eternal character and restart it at level 1 in the Seasonal Realm. Leveling and seasonal progression are still reset.
The regular Unique versions of Iconic Mythics should make builds functional earlier. At the same time, Soul Splinters demand more attention during gearing: a large damage bonus may cost Movement Speed, resources, or Critical Strike Chance.
For Endgame Players
The direct Mythic upgrade may be the most important long-term change. Strong Tempering and Masterworking results keep their value instead of being discarded when you move to a Mythic. The PTR limit of one directly crafted Mythic prevents every slot from becoming fully deterministic.
Challenge Dungeons could also provide a new form of scalable boss encounter. Their relevance next to the Pit, Infernal Hordes, and the boss ladder cannot be judged until the final encounters and rewards are known.
For the Meta
The PTR favors classes that received a higher core stat scalar, but it also reduces several powerful Paragon and item multipliers. Barbarian looks pressured, while Druid, Necromancer, Paladin, and Warlock received many positive adjustments. A credible Season 15 tier list still requires the final patch notes and live testing.
You can already experiment with the new data in our Season 15 Build Planner preview.
Conclusion
Season 15 is already shaping up to be a system-heavy Diablo 4 update. Soul Splinters change gearing, Legacy Uniques are returning, Mythic progression becomes more predictable, and Rebirth solves a long-standing quality-of-life problem. A wide balance pass creates several potential winners and leaves Barbarian looking substantially weaker for now.
The decisive part is still missing. Blizzard has deliberately withheld the season's name, complete mechanic, rewards, and final patch notes. The next reliable information is expected at BlizzCon on September 12 and 13. This overview will be updated as soon as Blizzard confirms the launch and the live version of Patch 3.2.0.
