Horadric Cube — Lord of Hatred
A Diablo classic returns: transform, combine and upgrade your loot.
## What is the Horadric Cube?
With the **Lord of Hatred** expansion, Blizzard brings back one of the most iconic artifacts in Diablo history. The Horadric Cube is far more than a nostalgic nod to Diablo II — it is a full new system that lets you modify your gear in ways that weren't possible in Diablo IV before.
As a Nephalem you use the cube to **transform, combine and upgrade** items. Combined with the new Talisman system, it opens up completely new build possibilities for every class.

## What the Cube does
- **Transform** — Convert items into other forms. Low-tier loot into higher-tier gear, or generic items into special variants.
- **Combine** — Merge multiple items to transfer properties or craft new ones. Craft set items or apply aspects with intent.
- **Upgrade** — Improve existing items: higher affix rolls, added sockets or a new role within your build.
[info]**Important:** The Cube unlocks during the campaign. Until then, you'll find recipes and NPC interactions that introduce the first functions.[/info]
## Interaction with the Talisman
The Cube reaches its full potential alongside the new **[Talisman system](/guides/miscellaneous/talisman-lord-of-hatred)**. The Talisman is the backbone of your build and lets you customize gear beyond classic slot boundaries. In combination with the Cube, it becomes the central tool to optimize items and unlock set bonuses that return for every class in Lord of Hatred.
